According to the Guardian, Brighton are expected to make a formal approach for Kjetil Knutsen in the coming days as they look to replace Graham Potter.

What’s the story?

Well, after Ange Postecoglou decided to stay at Celtic, Brighton now have a four-man shortlist to work through.

It was said that the Seagulls have already approached Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira, and the Guardian now believe contact is set to be made with Knutsen, who has shone in his role at Bodø/Glimt.

Roberto De Zerbi – who recently left Shakhtar Donetsk – is another name on the list, while RC Lens manager Frank Haise is also under consideration.

The Guardian add that outlets in Italy are claiming Brighton will hold talks with De Zerbi later this week.

Make no mistake about it, Brighton have identified some very talented coaches, although it remains to be seen how any of them would fare in the Premier League, given the fact none have managed in England before.

Knutsen very nearly did get a taste of life in English football earlier this year when he found himself on a shortlist of options to take over at Burnley.

However, the Clarets eventually hired Vincent Kompany.

Kjetil Knutsen could shine at Brighton

In our view, the 53-year-old could potentially be a tremendous appointment by the Seagulls.

Knutsen has led Bodø/Glimt to successive Eliteserien titles, while he also put the club’s name up in lights with some fine displays in the UEFA Conference League.

Above all, the Norwegian’s 6-1 win against José Mourinho’s Roma was a standout moment.

He has continued to impress in Europe, most recently picking up a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.

Of course, Norwegian football is a far cry from the Premier League, but after proving himself on the European scene, Knutsen could be a hidden gem in the managerial world.
