Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Antonio Conte was left “disappointed” by Tottenham on deadline day, as he looked for the club to bring in one more body on the final day of the transfer window. Spurs did not bring anyone in.

Spurs have completed seven signings this summer. However, the majority of the deals were done before the club even flew out to South Korea for a pre-season tour. Clement Lenglet joined the club a couple of days before the trip.

Following the tour, only Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie joined the club. The latter immediately returned to Udinese, where he is impressing. On the weekend, the Italian wonderkid scored in a 4-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

But Jones believes Conte wanted another body at Tottenham to improve his options. However, nothing materialised on deadline day despite all the rumours. It remains a superb window for Spurs, but Conte was left frustrated.

“I mean, he’s happy with the work that was done, but those close to him definitely sense there was some disappointment they couldn’t get one more over the line,” Jones told Give Me Sport on Monday evening.

As Jones says, Conte has been impressed by Tottenham’s overall work in the window. But he does have reason to be slightly disappointed towards the end of the window. Spurs could have done with another body in the final third.

They could have done with cover for Eric Dier, after Joe Rodon left the club to join Rennes. The Wales international is struggling for the French side. So, there are areas of the squad that still require strengthening.

But Fabio Paratici has completed deals for Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, a France international in Lenglet and two exciting talents in Spence and Udogie. Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster add top-quality experience.
