Joe Rodon has endured a difficult start to life on loan at Rennes from Tottenham and French media outlet Maxi Foot have given the Welshman a 4/10 rating for his display against Troyes on Sunday, during a 1-1 draw with Troyes away.
Rodon, 24, was handed his fifth start for Rennes in their sixth Ligue 1 games of the season. But the Welshman was at fault for Troyes’ opener, a header across the box saw Rony Lopes get to the ball ahead of Rodon – Ike Ugbo scoring.
Rodon has scored his first-ever professional goal in his first five Rennes outings. But he has struggled on the whole, and another tricky showing came at Troyes. Rennes have managed just eight points from their opening six games.
The Wales international is a certainty to be a part of the Wales squad ahead of this winter’s World Cup. But he will hope to improve his form before he jets off for Qatar. Maxi Foot gave him 4/10, questioning his composure on the ball.

“The least we can say the better. The Welshman was not composed on the recovery, as evidenced by his ball losses. Not ideal for a team against a low block. To make matters worse, he was replaced by Odobert at the end of the match.”

The point of Rodon’s loan to Rennes is two-fold. Get game time in before the World Cup in order to produce his best form for his country. The second, is to perhaps resurrect his career at Spurs and show Antonio Conte what he can do.
But after five appearances, he is struggling to do either. There is no doubt he will start for Wales, but he is struggling to show the kind of form he has done in a Wales shirt. If this form continues, his chances of a Spurs return are small.
