Championship strugglers West Brom are looking to sign £7 million Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke with Steve Bruce eyeing up the one-time Bundesliga wonderkid, as reported by Sky Deutschland.
Considering this is a side with Jed Wallace, Grady Diangana, Matt Phillips, John Swift and Karlan Grant all fighting for a space in the attack – not to mention the returning Daryl Dike – a tally of one win and 11 goals from their first seven games of the new campaign is, at best, underwhelming.
Steve Bruce will know that performances like Tuesday’s – a 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Wigan Athletic – cannot be repeated. Not if arguably the finest squad in the league are to avoid drifting away from the top-six.

Whether Brandon Thomas-Asante can help give West Brom a much-needed spark remains to be seen. He arrived this week after an excellent run at Salford City; though the step up from League Two to the Championship is a substantial one.
Former Germany U21 international Selke is another option; Albion looking to further firepower to a misfiring side.
Selke, once described as a ‘young Miroslav Klose’, has fallen some way short of the sky-high expectations that surrounded him following a couple of impressive campaigns at Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig some seven years ago.
He’s scored just seven Bundesliga goals since the start of 2018/19. There is a talent in there somewhere, however. Bruce would not be the first manager who attempts to unlock that undoubted potential.
Sky, however, believe that Selke is unlikely to arrive at the Hawthorns on deadline day as things stand. Hertha are unwilling to cash in, having let fellow striker Krzysztof Piatek join ambitious Serie A outfit Salernitana.
