According to 90Min, Arsenal have had a bid rejected for Douglas Luiz worth £20m plus add-ons.
Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder this Deadline Day after injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny decimated the Gunners’ depth in that area.
The likes of Youri Tielemans had been linked, but the north London club have seemingly settled on Luiz as one of their top targets as the window approaches its close.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, Aston Villa aren’t inclined to sell the Brazilian – despite the fact he’s in the final year of his contract.
Indeed, the Gunners’ first bid has been rejected, and with the clock ticking, Arsenal need to decide quickly if they’re going to put in another offer for the Brazilian.
Of course, Mikel Arteta’s side aren’t the only team interested in Luiz. Liverpool and Newcastle have also been credited with an interest, but with Arthur Melo seemingly set to join the Reds, the Merseyside club may well be out of the race here.
As for Newcastle, they’re also interested in Youri Tielemans, so it may well be the case that one of these clubs ends up with Tielemans while the other ends up with Luiz.
Villa aren’t keen to sell right now, but with Leander Dendoncker set to arrive at Villa Park, their hand could be forced as we approach the 11 PM deadline.
Don’t be too shocked if this isn’t the last you hear about the ‘fantastic’ midfielder on this Deadline Day as the race against the clock continues for Arsenal to get reinforcements through the door.
