Arsenal are now ‘really trying’ to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano who has revealed an update on the Brazilian potentially joining the Gunners this morning.

According to The Sun, Edu has submitted a £25 million offer for the Aston Villa midfielder.

And Romano has revealed on Twitter that Luiz himself is ‘keen’ to join Arsenal.

Here’s what the Italian journalist has tweeted:

This is a transfer that the North Londoners certainly need.

With Mohamed Elneny sidelined and Sambi Lokonga a little raw and inexperienced still, there’s a lot of pressure on Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka to remain fit this season.

And honestly, neither of them have blemish-free injury records to say the least.

Most of Partey’s first season at the Emirates Stadium was spent on the treatment table and then you have Xhaka, who also missed a chunk of the 2021-22 campaign through injury.

A serious absence for one of them threatens to derail Arsenal’s season – and what a brilliant season it could be, with Mikel Arteta’s side top of the Premier League standings with five victories from a possible five.

For a while it looked like the Gunners would be signing Luiz’s fellow Brazilian Danilo from Palmeiras, but now it looks like it could be the Aston Villa midfielder and, honestly, it might be the smarter move.

The 24-year-old has a decent bit of Premier League experience at this stage, but time will tell whether he’s a legitimate target.

According to Romano he is and the Italian is as reliable as anyone when it comes to matters such as this.
