Tottenham won’t be signing Yannick Carrasco having given up hope of a late deal for the Atletico Madrid star.
Spurs head into deadline day with most of their summer business done and dusted, but there may be scope for one more signing.
Fabio Paratici struck early with his deals but Tottenham may need to go and sign another winger today.
Bryan Gil is waiting for permission to join Valencia on loan, as Tottenham want to secure a replacement before letting him leave.
A number of names have been linked but one you can seemingly cross of the list is Atletico ace Carrasco.
Tottenham won’t be signing Yannick Carrasco
Reports from The Telegraph earlier this week that Tottenham had opened talks to try and sign Carrasco before the deadline.
It sounded like a tricky deal, with The Telegraph initially stating that Atletico would deal for around £25million.
Yet reports in Spain suggested that Atletico had no intention of selling and Tottenham would have to pay his full £51million release clause.
The Telegraph now have an update, claiming that Tottenham have now given up on the idea of signing Carrasco.
It’s stated that Atletico will not only refuse to sell, but also plan to give Carrasco a new contract to keep him in the Spanish capital.
The 28-year-old was wanted by Tottenham in January too and it’s staring to feel like Carrasco to Spurs just isn’t meant to be.
Tottenham’s search for a winger continues though and it’s stated that Spurs will turn back towards Leeds United winger Daniel James.
Tottenham want to take James on loan – almost certainly with an option to buy – in order to provide depth on the flanks for Antonio Conte.
Leeds don’t want to lose James though and convincing them to let the Welshman leave on loan will be a tough ask.
Leeds would want to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo to replace James, and he will cost more than £35million.
Tottenham may therefore need to come up with a permanent offer for James, or have to go back to the drawing board once again in their search for a winger.
