Tottenham want Yannick Carrasco but are being told to pay his full release clause to take him away from Atletico Madrid in the coming days.
Tottenham did plenty of business earlier in the transfer window but may still need some additions before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Winger Bryan Gil looks set for another loan move to Valencia, but that deal is being held up until Tottenham can find another winger.
Fabio Paratici is hunting for another wide man and one of the main names linked now is Atletico Madrid ace Yannick Carrasco.
Tottenham want Yannick Carrasco
The Telegraph reported on Monday night that Tottenham have now opened talks to sign Carrasco from Atletico Madrid.
It was suggested in that report that Atletico would be seeking around £25million for Carrasco – some £26million short of his release clause.
However, Marca claim that Atletico are telling Tottenham to pay the full release clause if they want to sign Carrasco.
That means paying a huge £51million with Atletico refusing to negotiate according to the claims from Spain.
Carrasco, 28, was a substitute as Atletico beat Valencia 1-0 on Monday but came on for Saul Niguez at half time.
It’s clear that the Belgian is still valued by Diego Simeone and Tottenham will have a hard task convincing Atletico to sell.
Carrasco is a technically-gifted and hard-working player, with Tottenham viewing him as a winger or wing back under Antonio Conte.
With just a couple of days of the window left to go, this feels like a deal that will prove very difficult to pull off.
Atletico seemingly want to rake in huge cash for Carrasco if they are going to sell, and we can’t see Tottenham paying more than £50million for a player with limited resale value.
What looked like a real possibility on Monday evening now looks very unlikely on Tuesday morning, with Tottenham potentially having to look elsewhere for a new wide man before the deadline.
