Tony Pulis has told BBC Live’s coverage of Everton drawing with Leeds United on Tuesday night that he would be “surprised” if Frank Lampard’s side cash in on Anthony Gordon before the end of the current transfer window.

Gordon, 21, scored a second Premier League goal in two games on Tuesday night. He put Everton 1-0 up against Leeds United at Elland Road, finishing well after being put through on goal by Alex Iwobi. Leeds equalised to draw.

Reports state that Chelsea are confident of completing a £60million deal for Gordon. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is said to be keen on hijacking a move, and both Manchester United and Newcastle are said to have shown interest.

But Chelsea are certainly the front runners. Ex-Premier League manager Pulis was asked if he thinks Gordon will leave before Thursday’s deadline, after his goal. He says that it would shock him if Gordon did now depart the Toffees.

“There is a price for everybody, but the most important thing for Everton is to stay up. If Everton sell, it is very late to replace him. I would be surprised if he goes. No disrespect, but some of the money being paid is extraordinary.”

Gordon has started to add numbers to his game. Coming into the 2022-23 season, the England Under-21 star had only managed four goals in 60 games. But this campaign, he now has two goals in five Premier League games.

He is wearing the no.10 shirt for his boyhood club, and is starting every match. He looks a real talent. If he has any nous in terms of career prospects, he needs to remain at Everton. Continue to score and create goals this season.

Then, next summer, he can join a new club – earning Everton even more cash. If he shines for Everton this season and scores, say, more than 10 goals, he would join a club like Chelsea and be first choice – rather than a squad player.
