Jakub Kiwior insists he ‘never had any doubts’ about staying in Serie A when asked about rumours linking him with a potential £10 million move to Premier League outfit West Ham United, speaking to Tuttosport.
If Sunday’s hard-fought 1-0 victory away to an insipid Aston Villa is anything to go by, David Moyes might have found one hell of a centre-half partnership at the London Stadium.
Kurt Zouma produced his finest performance of the season over the weekend; the kind of ‘thou shalt not pass’ display he made his calling card in 2021/22.
And, alongside him, summer arrival Thilo Kehrer bounced back from a difficult debut with a performance full of grit, guile and the sort of tactical flexibility that marked him out as a key figure at both Paris Saint-Germain and the German national team.
With Kehrer through the door, speculation over Kiwior has grown cold during the second half of August. Not that the young Pole is too disappointed at the prospect of another season with Spezia.
Jakub Kiwior is staying at Spezia after West Ham United talks
“I’ve never had any doubts, I’m happy here,” Kiwior says.
“I stayed with the aim of deserving my place, playing with continuity. I don’t think about the market rumours. I’m focusing on Spezia and the big match against Juventus (on Wednesday).”
According to Tuttomercatoweb, talks between Spezia and West Ham hit the buffers due to a difference of opinion regarding how the Kiwior deal would be structured. Spezia wanted the 22-year-old back on loan for the 2022/23 season.
West Ham, however, wanted Kiwior immediately. Fortunately for Moyes and co, PSG were never likely to put such obstacles in the way with Kehrer no longer part of Christophe Galtier’s plans at the Parc des Princes.
“It’s been really easy (integrating into the team),” Kehrer said after impressing against Aston Villa. “This is a good group and it’s a very positive atmosphere. There’s a lot of quality in the team.
“I can play different positions. The manager and the team know that. I’m ready to bring my qualities and my personality to the team. I’m aware of history and the importance of the London derbies. It’s very big and I’m really looking forward to it.”
