Talks between West Ham United and Spezia regarding Jakub Kiwior have stalled because the Premier League outfit do not want to loan him back to Serie A for the 2022/23 season, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
It’s been a day of mixed news at the London Stadium.
On one hand, Thilo Kehrer is on his way from Paris Saint-Germain. But, on the other, Wolves have succeeded where The Hammers failed with Matheus Nunes, while Club Brugge have reportedly rejected a £9 million bid for long-term transfer target Hans Vanaken and do not plan to sell under any circumstances.
West Ham want Jakub Kiwior from Serie A outfit Spezia
A potential £10 million deal for Jakub Kiwior, meanwhile, is going the same way; West Ham heads banging against walls. Tuttomercatoweb say that negotiations have ‘not taken off’. Though not because Spezia are taking the Club Brugge approach, and directing all offers into the nearest waste paper pin.
Spezia, TMW say, are willing to cash in on Kiwior. The problem, as far as West Ham are concerned, is that they are demanding the 22-year-old Poland international return on loan to the Stadio Alberto Picco for the entire 2022/23 season.
West Ham, however, want Kiwior immediately.
Given that both clubs appear to be harbouring completely different opinions of what to do with Kiwior, it is hard to see a compromise being reached. Or, for that matter, what a compromise would actually entail.
Kiwior, a left-footed centre-half who can also play in defensive midfield, would seemingly have stepped in for the injured Nayef Aguerd in Moyes’ backline. Aguerd could miss over two months after ankle surgery.
West Ham could now utilise Kehrer in that left-sided role instead. The German international is right-side by trade but comfortable on his opposite foot, not to mention the opposite flank.
“I can play both positions,” Kehrer told Kicker last year when asked if he prefers a role at centre-half or at full-back. “And I am also flexible in terms of the formation.
“I can operate on the right in a back four as well as on the right in a 3-4-3. But in the medium term, I think my strengths are best suited to playing in the central defence.”
