Leeds United want Hwang Hee-chan and boss Jesse Marsch has confirmed that the Wolverhampton Wanderers ace is on their wish list.
The Whites have been chasing a striker all summer but haven’t quite managed to get a deal done.
Charles De Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo were top Leeds targets, but went elsewhere by joining AC Milan and Rennes respectively.
If Leeds needed a striker before, then they will certainly need one now after Rodrigo suffered a significant shoulder injury against Everton on Tuesday.
Leeds United want Hwang Hee-chan
A theme throughout this summer has been Leeds signing players who know boss Jesse Marsch well.
Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams have all played for Marsch before and have now followed him to Elland Road.
It’s clear that Leeds want to back Marsch with the players he loves, and there could yet be another reunion on the cards.
Leeds are being linked with a move for Wolves attacker Hwang Hee-chan, with a £20million deal potentially in the works.
Hwang worked under Marsch at Red Bull Salzburg, racking up 16 goals as well as 24 assists in just 43 games under Marsch.
The caveat there is that Hwang was shining in Austrian football, which hasn’t really translated to success elsewhere.
RB Leipzig were happy to sell last summer after just a year at the club and Hwang is really struggling at Wolves right now.
A dreadful clearance for Allan Saint-Maximin’s equaliser for Newcastle on Sunday and a saved penalty against Preston North End last week pretty much sum it up.
Wolves have now signed a new striker in Sasa Kalajdzic and Leeds may have real hope of a deal for the South Korean.
Speaking to The Athletic after last night’s draw with Everton, Marsch confirmed that Hwang is one of Leeds’ targets late in the window.
Marsch admitted he likes Hwang a lot and the striker knows the style of play at Elland Road, so the American seems to be hoping for a deal.
“I know him very well, I like him, he knows our football. He’s on our list, I can tell you that,” said Marsch.
