Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Leeds United have ‘told’ Jesse Marsch the club will look at signing Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan before the end of the transfer deadline on Thursday evening – which will see the two reunite.
Hwang, 26, is being strongly linked with Leeds at the moment. The South Korea international starred under Marsch at Salzburg, before the two reunited briefly at Leipzig before Hwang went on loan to Wolves during the summer of 2021.
That loan has since turned permanent for Hwang, with Wolves paying Leipzig £14million in January 2022. But Hwang has struggled at Wolvea, showing glimpses of quality but only managed five goals in 36 appearances since joining.
However, Leeds are keen and are willing to pay £20million to sign the Everton target, if he becomes available. Jones now reports that the Leeds hierarchy have told Marsch that they will look at a reunion between the boss and Hwang.

“It’s not easy, but it’s clear Marsch wants him. The club have told Marsch that they would look into it and see if he is attainable now,” Jones told Give Me Sport, on Hwang. The versatile ace has a deal at Wolves for the next four years.

Is Hwang a good signing? Well, his best form came under Marsch during the 2020-21 season – which earned him a move to Leipzig. Indeed, he clocked up 40 appearances in all competitions that term – scoring 16, creating 22 assists.
But that was in Austria. His move to Leipzig did not go to plan – scoring three and creating four in 29. Since then, at Wolves, he has struggled to turn glimpses into consistency. Maybe, it is Marsch that can get the best out of him.
