Liverpool want Moises Caicedo but Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter seemingly isn’t worrying about him leaving any time soon.
The Reds saw their midfield heavily criticised after the 2-1 defeat at Manchester United, and much of the analysis still stands even after beating Bournemouth 9-0.
Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago are all in their 30’s.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain haven’t lived up to their billings and could leave in the near future.
Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho could become stars but Liverpool need to think about a midfield addition or two in the next 12 months.
Liverpool want Moises Caicedo
We would expect Liverpool to be in the mix for Jude Bellingham next summer but names are also being linked for the here and now.
One of the players linked with Liverpool is Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
90Min claimed earlier this month that Liverpool had joined Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham in the race for Caicedo.
Brighton paid just £4.5million to sign Caicedo from Independiente del Valle back in early 2021.
The Ecuadorian star has dazzled in the early weeks of this Premier League season, shining as an all-around, all-action box-to-box midfielder.
Caicedo is only 20 and many are now backing him to become a superstar in the coming years.
Reports in Ecuador last week suggested that Liverpool will now offer around £42million to sign Caicedo before Thursday’s deadline.
However, Brighton boss Potter has now suggested to The Independent that the Seagulls simply don’t think they will lose Caicedo in the coming days.
Potter believes Brighton just don’t need to sell Caicedo so they are ‘calm and confident’ even though those Liverpool rumours are circling.
“No surprise, but we know the position he is in and we know the position the club are in, which is why we don’t want to lose him,” said Potter.
“We don’t think we will, but in football you never know. That is how it is, but we are quite calm and confident,” he added.
Potter has added to the Daily Mail that £42million wouldn’t be enough for Caicedo, with £100million needed to get Brighton to even think about a deal given that Caicedo has been so ‘fantastic’.
“You’d probably get his boots for that from the chairman – maybe! £100m? They can try,” said Potter. “It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level.”
