Tottenham have targeted Trevoh Chalobah but Chelsea are now planning to block any exit for the defender before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Spurs are still in the market for English talent after bringing in Fraser Forster and Died Spence to bolster their homegrown quota.
Yet with Japhet Tanganga potentially leaving before the transfer deadline, Tottenham have bene chasing potential replacements at the back.
A homegrown replacement would be ideal but one of their targets seemingly won’t be allowed to make a move in the coming days.
Tottenham have targeted Trevoh Chalobah
Reports last seek suggested that Tottenham were showing a real interest in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
Whilst Chalobah suited what Tottenham needed as a replacement for Tanganga, a deal always seemed a little unlikely.
Chelsea and Tottenham never really do deals with each other given their bitter rivalry, so Chalobah trading West London for the north of the capital just never seemed likely.
AC Milan and Inter Milan are both keen on Chalobah too, but it looks like they – alongside Tottenham – will be left disappointed.
Gianluca Di Marzio now reports that Chelsea have decided to block Chalobah from leaving the club before Thursday’s deadline.
Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is heading for Stamford Bridge but Chelsea have still decided to keep hold of Chaobah until January at least.
The 23-year-old started for the first time this season on Saturday, playing 90 minutes in the 2-1 win over Leicester City.
Chalobah is unlikely to nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup, especially once Fofana is on board, but he will offer homegrown cover – exactly what Tottenham were looking for him to be under Antonio Conte.
Hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Tuchel last season, Chalobah is still highly regarded at Stamford Bridge and with Chelsea unwilling to let him go, Fabio Paratici must now go back to the drawing board for Tottenham.
