Tottenham want to sign Trevoh Chalobah less than a year since Thiago Silva picked him out as the future of Chelsea.
Japhet Tanganga could leave Tottenham this summer after weeks, even months of rumours linking him away from the club.
Tottenham’s homegrown numbers aren’t exactly ideal anyway, so losing Tanganga would only leave Tottenham needing to find more homegrown talent.
Another versatile defensive option would be ideal in order to replace Tanganga, and Tottenham are eyeing a surprise swoop for Chelsea talent Chalobah.
Tottenham want to sign Trevoh Chalobah
The London Evening Standard reported over the weekend that Tottenham were keen on luring Chalobah away from Chelsea.
It’s not often we see Chelsea and Tottenham striking deals together, with the bitter rivalry between the two clubs usually a problem.
Add in that Chelsea and Tottenham are direct top-four rivals and deals between the clubs are rare.
Chalobah is now wanted at Tottenham though having started the season on the Chelsea bench, even after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the club.
Chalobah is under contract until 2026 though, meaning Chelsea are under little pressure to sell to Tottenham.
Still, Tottenham may chance their arm with a late move for the Sierra Leone-born star – less than a year since earning praise from Thiago Silva.
Silva told Chelsea’s official website that he felt Chalobah was the future of Chelsea having long been a fan of his ability, even back to his loan spell at Lorient.
Chalobah featured alongside Silva in the Chelsea back line last season and it’s clear that the legendary Brazilian sees a huge future ahead for the 23-year-old.
Chalobah will need to play regularly in order to realise that potential though and that may be a tough ask with Chelsea.
A move to Tottenham may not help either though, with Eric Dier and Cristian Romero key parts of Antonio Conte’s back three in the centre and on the right – two positions Chalobah would play.
Silva would seemingly hope that Chalobah wants to stay put, but it’s now over to Thomas Tuchel, Fabio Paratici and others to decide whether a deal can be done this summer.
