According to Foot365, Wolves are set to sign Newcastle target Boubacar Traore from Metz after submitting a €10m (£8m) bid.
What’s the story?
Well, it was said that the 21-year-old was on the radar of Eddie Howe as he aims to bring a new central midfielder to Newcastle.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, it seems they will now need to look elsewhere.
Foot365 believe the £8m bid is likely to be enough to satisfy Metz, and the story also claims that Traore’s future now lies in England instead of France.
Lille – a side renowned for making smart signings in recent times – were also keen.
Interest in Traore comes after he made 28 appearances in all competitions for Metz last season as they were sadly relegated from Ligue 1.
The Mali Under-20 international has played every minute for Metz so far this season barring one game he missed through injury.
Despite the club’s struggles last term, it is impressive to see someone so young be so heavily involved in the first-team.
Wolves have moved to sign Traore before other clubs take notice of him next summer, when he would’ve been available for a lot less with just 12 months remaining on his contract – his deal expires in July 2024.
Wolves show shrewdness with bid for Newcastle target
In our view, Wolves have reacted to losing Morgan Gibbs-White in very impressive fashion.
The Old Gold sold their academy graduate in a deal potentially worth £45m if he impresses at Nottingham Forest, and Lage has moved quickly to spend that money well.

Matheus Nunes – one of the most wanted midfielders in Europe – was signed for £42m, and with a further £8m set to come out of the bank account for Traore, Wolves have effectively paid just £5m to swap Gibbs-White for two bright footballers.
That is excellent business, as was the signing of Goncalo Guedes – if Lage can ensure his main men stay fit, Wolves could be in for an exciting season.
