Flamengo ‘will sell’ Lazaro if Premier League strugglers West Ham United improve their initial £6 million bid for the Brazil youth star, South American reporter Renato Mauricio Prado says on his UOL Esporte YouTube channel.
Even in victory over Viborg – West Ham’s only win in four games so far this term – David Moyes’ listless side looked like a team with less spark than a broken fuse.
This is now their worst start to a league season in 51 years; no wins, no goals and no points.
The prospective arrival of Lazaro from Brazilian giants Flamengo should, at least, get supporters off their seats for all the right seasons. West Ham have submitted a £6 million bid for one of South America’s brightest young talents, per Fabrizio Romano.
And while Flamengo are holding out for closer to £9 million, Prado believes that there’s a pretty good chance Lazaro will be wearing claret and blue come September.
Will West Ham United bring in Lazaro from Flamengo?
“West Ham remain interested in Lazaro,” he says. “I have the feeling that if (West Ham) increase the offer a little bit, Flamengo will sell.
“There is this feeling (at Flamengo ) that Lazaro is a good player, but he will not be a player who will make a difference up front.
“I have a feeling that Lazaro will eventually go. I don’t know if Flamengo has much interest in resisting (the offers).”
Lazaro has scored four goals in his last five appearances in Brazil’s Serie A. Not a bad tally form a player apparently incapable of ‘making a difference’ in the final third.
Of the players currently at David Moyes’ disposal, Said Benrahma appears to have the most to lose from Lazaro’s arrival. The 20-year-old is, after all, another breezy, snake-hipped left-winger who loves to cut inside onto his right foot.
The irony being, of course, that Benrahma is one of the few West Ham players who could hold his head high so far this term. The Algerian was their brightest spark in the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. He even set up Michail Antonio’s only goal of the campaign with a mesmerising assist in the Conference League qualifiers.
