West Ham United will have to double their bid with Flamengo demanding a minimum of £9 million from the Premier League outfit for Brazilian forward Lazaro, Jorge Nicola explains on his Canal do Nicola YouTube channel.

Close your eyes for a second and imagine a 20-year-old Brazilian winger. We’d imagine your mind conjures up a tricky, twinkle-toed forward skipping through a forest of legs, a blur of speed and skill.

Well, that’s Lazaro.

The 20-year-old from Rio is the latest baby-faced Samba starlet to emerge from one of the world’s most iconic footballing nations, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists during his breakthrough season at Flamengo.

And, according to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham are already looking to bring Lazaro to England, having reportedly submitted an initial bid of £6 million.

Jorge Nicola, one of the most respected reporters in South America, backs up Romano’s claims, albeit with one difference. West Ham’s offer, Nicola says, is not quite £6 million; Closer to £4 million.

Either way, Flamengo want more.

Will West Ham United sign Lazaro from Flamengo?

“West Ham United have already made a first proposal of around five million euros today,” Nicola said on Saturday. “Flamengo made it clear that it will take an offer of at least twice that amount – about 10 million euros.”

Another problem West Ham face is that the transfer window closes just over a week from now. Time, Nicola points out, is not on the Hammers’ side.

“The great difficulty is the registration deadline. Teams in England have until September 1st to secure contracts (with new signings),” he says.

“Flamengo are also discussing other conditions of the deal, such as a sell-on clause and bonuses linked to goals.”

The right-footed Lazaro has thrived as an inverted left winger at Flamengo, but it’s his versatility that will appeal to Moyes. The former Brazil U17 international can also play through the middle, as an attacking midfielder or even in a full-back role.
