Newcastle United are now reportedly pushing to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Manu Kone, a player Marcelo Bielsa was once desperate to have at Leeds United.
According to L’Equipe via GFFN, the Magpies are intent on signing the 21-year-old France international, with Eddie Howe’s side willing to spend as much as €35m (£30m) to secure the midfielder’s services this summer, with Kone last season establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting talents.
The youngster has come a long way in the last 12 months, with Kone becoming a regular for Gladbach last season and becoming a France U-21 international, with Leeds seemingly missing out on a diamond following reports in 2020 that Bielsa was eager to sign the midfielder after the Whites promotion back to the Premier League.
Now, it appears that Newcastle could sign Kone two years after Leeds missed out on the youngster, who TuttoMerctoWeb once likened to Juventus star Paul Pogba given how versatile the Bundesliga star is in the midfielder and his physical frame.
As per L’Equipe, whilst a formal offer is yet to be made, late activity in the window could see Newcastle table a bid for Kone, who would be an excellent addition to the Toon’s squad and another piece of Howe’s long-term vision for the northeast side, who this weekend secured an incredible 3-3 draw against English champions Manchester City.
Indeed, whilst Kone would be an expensive outlay for Newcastle, pairing the midfielder alongside Bruno Guimaraes could form an excellent spine for the Magpies going forward, and the midfielder himself could be very open to a move to the Premier League with Howe’s side.
Newcastle should be pushing hard to sign Kone this summer

Newcastle’s business this summer has been oddly underwhelming despite the massive improvements the likes of Nick Pope and Sven Botman have already made to the team this season, and adding Kone to the mix could complete an outstanding window of business for the English side.
Whilst Kone is only 21, the midfielder has the potential to become a key staple for Newcastle in the years to come, and the youngster could be an ideal signing that will excite supporters this season, especially alongside Guimaraes in the centre of the Magpies park.
