Aston Villa are targeting Ismaila Sarr but there are fears that their move could collapse with personal terms still not agreed with the Watford star.
Villa have endured a tricky start to the season with just three points from their first three games.
The pressure is already mounting on Steven Gerrard, with Villa fans seeing little progress under the Liverpool legend.
Gerrard has been backed handsomely in the transfer market since his arrival and could now be given another major signing to try and get Villa back on track.
Aston Villa are targeting Ismaila Sarr
Reports on Saturday indicated that Villa had agreed a deal with Watford for winger Ismaila Sarr, with the fee believed to be in the region of £25million.
That all looked pretty encouraging but there are some worrying noises emerging about the deal.
Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to report that there are ‘still things to resolve’ in the Sarr deal, with ‘negotiations in danger’ as things stand.
The Daily Mail offer a similar update, claiming that personal terms have not been agreed and there is concern that the move could collapse.
It’s added that Sarr did speak to Steven Gerrard on Saturday and is expected at Villa for a medical soon, but these issues over personal terms could scupper the move.
Sarr, 24, missed Watford’s 0-0 draw at Preston North End on Saturday though did travel with the rest of the Hornets squad.
The Senegalese speedster, who has previously made an impact in the Premier League with Watford, could return to the top flight with Villa but the deal hangs in the balance.
Whether Villa really need a winger right now is something that has left fans a little divided.
Gerrard is already having to juggle the likes of Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, Philippe Coutinho, Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey in the final third.
Adding Sarr to that mix feels like a real luxury right now when Villa are struggling in other areas, and the coming days will be crucial to Gerrard’s hopes of securing his signature.
