Hwang Ui Jo and Bordeaux are in the midst of a ‘showdown’ with the striker hoping to seal a move to Nottingham Forest’s Premier League rivals Wolves before the September transfer deadline, French reporter Clement Carpentier tells Girondins 4 Ever.

Bordeaux, cash-strapped and relegated, are not going to keep Hwang at the Matmut Atlantique against his will. After all, the £3.5 million they could earn from the South Korean’s sale would come in very handy, as the former Ligue 1 champions prepare themselves for a promotion challenge.

But the problem, as far as Hwang and Bordeaux are concerned, is that the player’s preferred destination is not Forest but Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Forest, you see, have had a £3.5 million bid accepted. Hwang, however, is holding out for Wolves; A side only willing to offer £2.5 million as things stand.

As such, Bordeaux find themselves in a rather awkward situation. A club with mountainous debts would obviously prefer to accept the biggest offer. Hwang, however, has his heart set on a club offering £1 million less.

Nottingham Forest or Wolves for Hwang Ui Jo?

“The club have already accepted two offers for (Hwang): One from Nottingham Forest and another from Stade Brest,” Carpentier explains.

“The Bretons even increased this last Sunday by offering four million euros, plus one million bonuses to match the offer of the English club.

“Problem; The player and his entourage would now prefer to join another Premier League club – Wolves – for financial reasons. Except that Wolves are only offering three million euros to Bordeaux.

“It is therefore quite simply a showdown between the striker and Bordeaux.”

There are a couple of reasons why Hwang has reservations about becoming the latest in a long line of new faces at the City Ground. The terms on offer at Forest, Carpentier suggests, are not quite on the same level as those at Wolves.

Furthermore, Forest’s intention to loan Hwang out to Olympiakos has gone down like the proverbial lead balloon in the South Korean’s camp.

Wolves, meanwhile, have completed the marquee signings of Portugal internationals Matheus Nunes and Goncalo Guedes.
