Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui Jo is ‘not thrilled’ by Nottingham Forest’s plan to send him out on loan to Olympiakos if he was to put pen to paper with the Premier League newcomers, as reported by L’Equipe.

Thanks to the Evangelos Marinakis connection, the path from Nottingham to Piraeus is now one increasingly well-travelled.

Joao Carvalho, Tiago Silva, Miguel Angel Guerrero and Cafu are just four of the players who have moved from one Marinakis-owned club to another in recent years; And, in some cases, back again. Philip Zinckernagel is now an Olympiakos player, after thriving on loan at the City Ground in 2021/22.

According to L’Equipe, Nottingham Forest have drawn up plans to send South Korea international Hwang Ui Jo out on loan to their Greece-based counterparts, should the Bordeaux frontman opt for Steve Cooper’s play-off winners over the likes of Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But it seems Forest may have to return to the drawing board. Hwang, the report adds, is ‘not excited’ about plying his trade at Olympiakos. That is despite the prospect of European football under former Huddersfield Town coach Carlos Corberan.

Nottingham Forest Hwang Ui Jo deal in the balance

Hwang would prefer to play in England.

And if Nottingham Forest are not going to offer him that – at least, not immediately – then heads up Wolves and Fulham; The ball has just come bouncing into your court.

“Yes, he is a boy who is likely to leave, you know that,” admits Bordeaux coach Davide Guion. “Indeed, he is likely to leave us in the coming days.”

Those comments are now two weeks old. The situation surrounding Hwang has dragged on for far longer than anyone at relegated Bordeaux might have expected, with the 29-year-old poacher taking his time before deciding on his next move.

Hwang’s representatives, some have suggested, are holding out for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ammunition certainly shouldn’t be in short supply at Molineux, particularly with Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes joining Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence and £27 million forward Goncalo Guedes in the Black Country.
