According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace have lost some hope of signing Everton target Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.

What’s the story?

Well, it was said that the south Londoners were optimistic about re-signing the England international, who enjoyed a very impressive season-long loan at Selhurst Park last term.

In 34 Premier League appearances, Gallagher scored eight goals and provided three assists.

However, after N’Golo Kante suffered a hamstring injury in the 84th minute of Sunday’s 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham, Crystal Palace have lost their optimism over a reunion, according to The Athletic.

It remains to be seen how Everton react to the France international’s injury – it was said that Frank Lampard is confident of signing the Chelsea No.23 this summer.

Newcastle have also enquired about Gallagher – The Times claimed that a deal is progressing.

The 22-year-old is yet to start for Chelsea this season. He played just one minute of the 1-0 win over Everton, before Thomas Tuchel threw him on against Tottenham for six minutes after Kante went down.

Conor Gallagher should push for Crystal Palace or Everton move

In our view, Gallagher should ask Chelsea to let him leave again – either on loan or on a permanent basis.

The World Cup is scheduled for November, and on the evidence so far, Gallagher will not receive enough playing time at Stamford Bridge to be selected by Gareth Southgate.

Nobody knows how the 22-year-old’s career will be going when the 2026 World Cup comes around, so this could be his one and only chance to partake in the tournament.

At Crystal Palace, Gallagher was a regular in the England squad, winning four caps in total, so taking a step down from Champions League level is unlikely to do his chances of being selected any harm.

However, unless he pushes for the move, it seems as if the south Londoners will now start to look elsewhere.
