As you may have heard, Tottenham are attempting to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta, with Nottingham Forest also keen.

In fact, it has even been said that the 29-year-old wants to join Antonio Conte at Spurs.

Now, however, Fabrizio Romano has discovered a potential issue for the north Londoners and Nottingham Forest.

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes Marseille are now in talks to sign Malinovskyi.

The French giants are currently in discussions with both Atalanta as well as the Ukraine international’s representatives, and Cengiz Under could be included as part of the deal.

It means Tottenham not only have to fend off Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest, but they must now contend with one of the biggest sides in France trying to sign Malinovskyi.

Interest in the Atalanta No.18 comes after he scored ten goals in 41 appearances last season, while also providing seven assists.

Interestingly, the Ukrainian’s wife recently followed Conte on Instagram, which added plenty of fuel to the fire as speculation intensifies.

Tottenham or Nottingham Forest could sign a gem

In our view, Malinovskyi would be a great signing for Conte or Cooper.

The Zhytomyr-born technician is said to have a cannon of a left foot, and he also excels from set-piece situations, which could prove valuable for two physical sides such as Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.

Furthermore, Malinovskyi has already entered the final 12 months of his contract with Atalanta, so he is available for a cut-price fee. A sum of £20m has been mentioned by some sources.

The Tottenham and Nottingham Forest target also boasts Champions League experience, making 18 appearances in Europe’s greatest club competition, while he has also won 49 caps for Ukraine.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Ukrainian looks very likely to leave Atalanta before the August 31st deadline.
