Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips has told Give Me Sport that Thomas Tuchel has held talks with Newcastle United target Conor Gallagher – informing the England star he will not be going anywhere, and will get plenty of game time.

Gallagher, 22, has become an England international and won four caps for his country after a wonderful loan at Crystal Palace. During his loan last season, he had a hand in 13 goals during 39 league and cup appearances for the Eagles.

He has returned to Chelsea and has remained thus far this window, despite the World Cup only a few months away. Newcastle are among the clubs supposedly keen on a move for the £40million-rated midfielder this summer.

However, a move to Newcastle looks unlikely. That is because journalist Phillips claims Tuchel has held talks with Gallagher. He believes that Tuchel has told Gallagher he will get plenty of game time, telling him he will stay put.

“The decision was made from all parties after conversations with Tuchel. He feels like he’s going to get the chances. Tuchel has told him there will be games available for him and he’s happy to stay and the decision to was made.”

Tuchel talks with Newcastle target Gallagher: Not going anywhere

Newcastle need an addition in midfield. If they did not need one before Jonjo Shelvey’s injury, they certainly do now. Gallagher is a top player and the perfect addition for a club that harbors ambition of pushing for European football.

Newcastle are in that position. They will be hoping to finish in the top eight this season and if they are to do that, they need a couple more signings this summer. Gallagher would be the ideal kind of midfield addition under Eddie Howe.

But it appears that he will get his chance at Chelsea. Whether that is starting Cup games, making substitute outings in the Premier League and getting the odd Champions League outing, who knows. But it looks as if he will stay.
