Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are determined to sign Conor Gallagher from Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

The report has claimed that Newcastle have made Chelsea midfielder Gallagher their ‘prime target’ in the final weeks of the transfer window.

With their chances of signing James Maddison from Leicester City slim, Newcastle will ‘now step up their efforts to persuade Chelsea to sell their £40m-rated midfielder’, according to the report.

Could Newcastle sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea?

In our opinion, Newcastle United may not find it easy to persuade Chelsea to sell Conor Gallagher in the summer transfer window even if they pay £40 million.

Gallagher is a Chelsea academy graduate who did well in the Premier League last season when he was on loan at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel rates him highly and has used the 22-year-old as a substitute in the Blues’ opening two Premier League matches this season.

Moreover, N’Golo Kante suffered an injury against Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby on Sunday.

Kante has had injury issues in recent times, and Chelsea may not want to be short in the midfield department by letting England international midfielder Gallagher leave.
