A report from TuttoMercatoWeb claims that Rennes signing Leeds United target Arnaud Kalimuendo could in turn hand Everton a free run at signing striker Serhou Guirassy. The latter is being strongly linked with the Toffees.

Everton are using Ligue 1 as a pool for much of their transfer activity this summer. Amadou Onana has come in from Lille. Idrissa Gueye could return from PSG, and Guirassy is said to be a £15million target for Everton this summer.

Frank Lampard is likely to be desperate for a striker. Dom Calvert-Lewin is set for a timely spell on the sidelines after picking up another injury, while Salomon Rondon was in the stands serving suspension as Chelsea beat Everton 1-0.

Lampard’s men played without a striker and that was quite apparent. Now, Rennes completing a deal for Kalimuendo, as confirmed by the club on Thursday, hands Everton a boost. Kalimuendo has joined Rennes for a fee of £21million.

Indeed, the Frenchman was a strong target for Leeds – but he has chosen to remain in France, despite being tempted. TMW say Rennes signing Kalimuendo has allowed Everton a free run at signing target man Guirassy this summer.

Kalimuendo signing could hand Everton free run at Guirassy

Guirassy is just what Everton need. A player that not only scores goals himself – 14 in 38 at Amiens and 25 in 81 at Rennes – but also creates. His ability as a big, physical striker would bring in Anthony Gordon, Dele Alli and co.

So, with Calvert-Lewin out and doubts over the ability of Rondon, Guirassy is a decent addition. Leeds missing out on Kalimuendo leaves them without a striker signing, but in turn, it hands Everton a real chance to sign one themselves.

Reports also state that Guirassy is keen on a move to Everton this summer. That is, despite only joining Rennes in the summer of 2020. For £15million, he is certainly good value.
