90Min claim that Arnaud Kalimuendo was tempted by Leeds United and the offer the Premier League club put on the table, but he has decided to join Rennes from PSG – preferring to stay in France and sign a five-year deal.

Kalimuendo, 21, emerged as a target for Leeds earlier this summer after an excellent two-year loan spell with Lens. In 65 games, he scored 21 goals, whether that be from out wide or up front – a superb spell for the France Under-21 ace.

However, Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of the PSG attacker. PSG were even tempted to keep him, after a strong pre-season. But Luis Campos has always been open to his exit if the right price was put on the table.

Leeds have made an offer, while Rennes and Nice have also tabled bids. The offer did tempt Kalimuendo of swapping France for England, but he prefers to remain in France, and a big five-year deal is on the table from Leeds.

Indeed, Rennes have had a strong transfer window – including the addition of Joe Rodon from Tottenham on loan. Rennes also have the offer of Europa League football, after finishing in fourth in the Ligue 1 table last season.

But ultimately, a move for Kalimuendo always had its risks. He is a young striker, with enormous potential. But Leeds already have one of those – in Joe Gelhardt. Bringing in another like Gelhardt simply stifles both of their opportunities.

So, while a striker is needed, signing the likes of Kalimuendo would only hamper the progress of Gelhardt. Bringing in a more experienced attacker, that can also play up top, is the route Leeds need. Ismaila Sarr, is an example of this.

Reports claim that Leeds are closing in on a deal for Senegal international Sarr. Talks are nearly done with Leeds in terms of a fee, and communication with the player over a contract is also close. He would be a stunning signing.
