Coventry City boss Mark Robins has now hit out at reports claiming Everton are interested in signing his star striker, Viktor Gyokeres, after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s latest injury blow.

Coventry boss Mark Robins calls out ‘idiots’ claiming Everton want Viktor Gyokeres

Coventry City boss Mark Robins has now called out the ‘idiots talking rubbish’, in response to reports claiming Frank Lampard is among a raft of managers interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres as Everton have lost Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury, as quoted by Coventry Live.

Calvert-Lewin is facing another five weeks on the sidelines while the England international recovers from a knee problem. He sustained the blow during training ahead of the Premier League season starting last Saturday, in a cruel blow following last term’s various setbacks.

Lampard was also without a recognised striker at home to Chelsea with Salomon Rondon suspended. So, Gyokeres has emerged as an option to bolster the Goodison Park frontline after scoring 17 goals and recording five assists in 45 Championship appearances last term.

The seven-cap Sweden striker also scored at Southampton in the FA Cup this February, but could not avoid a defeat. Gyokeres had only joined Coventry last summer, too, having left Brighton & Hove Albion for the Coventry Building Society Arena in a £1m transfer last July.

Now, Fotboll Direkt in his native Sweden report Gyokeres’ Coventry efforts – which include one goal in one game this season – have interested Everton. A host of rival teams are also exploring a deal, but the Sky Blues want a big profit on their investment to consider selling.

Mark Robins states ‘absolutely zero happening’ with Viktor Gyokeres

Yet Robins believes there is currently no team in talks with Coventry over signing Gyokeres amid Everton’s reported interest. The Sky Blues boss addressed his star forward’s situation after the Sweden ace was left an unused substitute against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

“I think this is what you get in the window, idiots talking rubbish and there’s absolutely zero truth in things,” Robins vented. “So, as far as I know, there’s nothing in that.

“I think that people are up to no good. There are a lot of mischief makers at this time of year, so we have just got to put it down to that. If there’s anything to tell you, I’ll tell you about it. But at the moment, there’s absolutely zero happening.”

Robins chose to give Gyokeres the night off as Coventry lost 4-1 at home to Bristol City in a first-round EFL Cup affair. The Robins took the lead after just 12 minutes and led 3-0 at the break. Jamie Allen later gave the hosts a slim hope of a comeback just after the hour mark.
