Everton want Viktor Gyokeres but are seemingly far from alone in the race to sign the Coventry City striker this summer.
The Toffees have mostly focused on defensive additions this summer.
Conor Coady has joined James Tarkowski and Ruben Vinagre in signing for Everton, whilst Amadou Onana and target Idrissa Gueye are predominantly defensive-minded midfielders.
That’s a positive for Frank Lampard but Everton simply have to bring in striking firepower too.
Richarlison has moved on to Tottenham Hotspur and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured, a striker has to be signed soon.
Everton want Viktor Gyokeres
Names like Armando Broja and Sasa Kalajdzic have been mentioned of late but Everton could now look to the Championship market.
Fotboll Direkt in Sweden report that Everton are interested in signing Coventry City hitman Viktor Gyokeres.
However, it’s stated that other clubs are rivalling Everton for Gyokeres and that Coventry want a ‘high price’ for the Swedish striker.
The Sky Blues paid just over £1million to sign Gyokeres from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer and are now seeking huge profit.
Gyokeres, 24, came through at IF Brommapojkarna in Sweden, the same club as Dejan Kulusevski.
Brighton snapped him up in 2018 but he couldn’t make the breakthrough there, instead heading on loan to St Pauli, Swansea City and Coventry.
Three goals in 19 games on loan there wasn’t amazing but the Sky Blues saw enough potential to make the move permanent – and have been rewarded massively.
Gyokeres smashed 18 goals in all competitions last season and has become one of the Championship’s top strikers.
Now a Sweden international with seven caps and two goals to his name, Gyokeres is emerging as a real goalscoring talent.
Everton now fancy Gyokeres and they will love that Coventry boss Mark Robins has praised his ‘unbelievable’ ability.
Having been picked to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Sweden setup, Gyokeres is no stranger to pressure and he may well feel that the time is right for a big Premier League move as Everton seek goals.
