Tottenham will reportedly hold further talks this week with AS Roma for the signing of Nicolo Zaniolo, a player Antonio Conte is desperate to bring to north London this summer.
According to Foot Mercato via GFFN, Spurs will enter new discussions in the coming days with the Serie A side for the Italian international, with Jose Mourinho eager to offload Zaniolo this window to both recoup funds for further signings as well as to make some room in the squad for any new personnel.
Tottenham have been linked with Zaniolo for the majority of the transfer window, with reports suggesting last week that talks had begun between Spurs and Roma for the 23-year-old playmaker to sign for the Premier League side, with these discussions seemingly continuing into August.
Valued at €50m (£42m) according to the latest reports, Zaniolo could become one of Tottenham’s most expensive signings this summer following the arrivals of the likes of Richarlison from Everton and Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion, with Spurs one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the window.
Regarded as one of Italy’s most exciting talents and a key player for Roma’s UEFA Europa Conference League triumph last season, Zaniolo has the potential to become a world beater in football, and for Tottenham, the versatile playmaker could be an exceptional addition for the north London side.
However, whilst Zaniolo would be an exciting signing for Tottenham, the Italian’s arrival and potential price tag does pose the question as to where will the forward fit in Conte’s plans and what system could the Spurs boss possibly do to fit in the 23-year-old along with Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.
Tottenham signing Zaniolo could cause friction in the squad

A main reason why Roma are looking to sell Zaniolo this summer is mainly due to his off-the-field problems that have resulted in the winger falling out with Mourinho, and Conte bringing his type of player to north London on top of his uncertain position in the squad could cause some problems.
Indeed, Conte’s own record of falling out with players could lead to an explosive tenure for Zaniolo at Tottenham if everything falls apart immediately, and at £42m, Spurs and the Italian manager are taking a big risk in pushing to sign the Roma outcast this summer.
