Sam Rodon, the brother of Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe, has expressed his delight on Twitter after his loan move to Ligue 1 side, Rennes.

The 24-year-old had fallen down the pecking order under Antonio Conte and he needed a move this summer to secure regular starts ahead of next season.

It became even more important that Rodon made that move when Wales qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar because this deal now allows him to be at his physical peak for the world’s biggest tournament.

Rodon wasn’t the only Welshman securing a move to France on Monday because Aaron Ramsey signed for Nice on a free transfer after ripping up his contract at Juventus, as reported by BBC Sport.

Nonetheless, it has been reported that Rodon’s loan move is included with an option to buy, so that probably signals the end of his Spurs career.

Nonetheless, this was Joe Rodon’s brother’s reaction to his loan move to France, as he posted on his social media.

RODON TRANSFER HASN’T WORKED

In 2020, Spurs paid Swansea City £11 million for Rodon’s talents (Sky Sports) and he was someone that was going to fill the long-term void left by Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

That clearly hasn’t worked out, but the managers Rodon has worked under, from Jose Mourinho to Nuno Espirito Santo have been harsh on the player.

In order for an individual to prove his worth, they need regular minutes out on the pitch and that’s something he didn’t get on a consistent basis.

Therefore, it’s pretty hard to criticise the player for not developing as he would have liked, but he now has the forthcoming campaign in France and the World Cup to prove his worth.

Wales will be in England’s group, they are the underdogs, but if they can manage to cause some damage and progress to the knockout stages, then the reputations of those players will only go through the roof.
