Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has now issued AC Milan a deadline of next Tuesday to agree a transfer before he will start to consider any rival interest in his services.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who note the Rossoneri will prioritise the 23-year-old’s switch to the San Siro. But only once technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massara finalise negotiations with Club Brugge over Charles De Ketelaere’s arrival.

AC Milan have held talks with Tanganga’s representatives over him possibly moving to Italy for a number of weeks. The Serie A champions also have the structure of a transfer agreed with Tottenham, however the two clubs are still to settle on the fees involved in his move.

Tanganga gives AC Milan a Tuesday deadline for Tottenham exit amid rival interest

Maldini and Massara are determined to improve Stefano Pioli’s central defensive options with a loan featuring an option to buy. Spurs are prepared to let Tanganga leave in a loan transfer, but CalcioMercatoWeb cite a desire for an obligation to buy set at €25m (£21m).

Abdou Diallo of Paris Saint-Germain could emerge as an alternative option if AC Milan and Tottenham do not agree terms. Tanganga has also warned Maldini and Massara that he is willing to listen to rival approaches if they cannot set the terms of his transfer by Tuesday.

Tanganga has already turned away a host of interested clubs after giving his priority for a transfer away from Tottenham to AC Milan. Calciomercato noted earlier this week that he snubbed several Premier League offers, having wanted to join the Rossoneri ‘at all costs’.

But with the new season on the horizon, Tanganga – who Jose Mourinho once dubbed as ‘fantastic’ – wants his future resolved. The Spurs product only featured 19 times, with 11 in the Premier League, during last term before sustaining a campaign-ending knee injury
