Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Pau Torres and a potential move away from Villarreal for the Spaniard.

The centre-back has long been linked with a move to the Premier League – perhaps most notably with Tottenham Hotspur, but now, Romano has stated that Arsenal could move for the defender.

Indeed, as rumours continue to circulate about Gabriel Magalhaes’ future and a potential move to Juventus, Arsenal are reportedly lining up Torres as a potential replacement for the Brazilian.

What’s been said?

Romano spoke about Torres and a potential move to Arsenal.

“Keep an eye on the centre-back domino with Pau Torres. He’s always been on the list of Chelsea, not as a priority, but he’s been on the list. Let’s see what happens with Juventus, they are now negotiating with Bremer, and let’s see what happens with Arsenal and Pau Torres in case a top club comes in for Gabriel, this could be an option for Arsenal,” Romano said.

Control

If Arsenal sign Pau Torres then they will genuinely have one of the best ball-playing defensive pairings in the Premier League.

Indeed, Torres and Ben White are both absolutely incredible on the ball, and while they may lack that physical presence, Mikel Arteta’s side are much more focused on footballing ability than strength and physicality.

Gabriel would be missed if he left Arsenal. After all, he was arguably the Gunners’ best defender last season, but if Torres came in to plug that gap he could be a brilliant replacement.

Of course, this would be made all the sweeter due to the fact Tottenham Hotspur have chased Torres for years, and if Arsenal get him, they will have gotten one over Spurs.
