The Times claim West Ham have now held talks to sign Hoffenheim and Germany star David Raum this summer – and have been told he will cost a whopping £33million to sign. Newcastle have also been linked with the left-back.
Raum, 24, only joined Hoffenheim last summer from Greuther Furth – after impressing for the German minnows beforehand. He clocked up 23 assists and six goals in 99 games for his boyhood club from the left side of defence.
That form continued at Hoffenheim. Playing 35 times during 2021-22, he managed three goals and 13 assists – earning him a place in Germany’s side. He has nine caps to his name, which has of course, attracted Premier League interest.

Newcastle have been linked, but now have Matty Targett on a permanent basis. West Ham are still keen on Raum and have held talks over a move for the German. Hoffenheim have informed West Ham they want £33million.

West Ham could do with a left-sided defender. Aaron Cresswell is first choice, but he has often moved into the middle of the park as he grows older. Arthur Masuaku has been in and out of the side, with injury a concern.
David Moyes will want a left-back that can cross well and Raum is certainly that. With Armando Broja close and Michail Antonio in the box, it is important they are given the ammunition to score and full-backs with a good cross are crucial.
Judging by Raum’s stats, it is clear he is more than capable of swinging a cross into the box. His 36 assists in 134 senior club appearances is an excellent record. At £33million, he is expensive. But he is still only 24. A very good signing.
