AS Roma are reportedly on the verge of signing Argentine international Paulo Dybala, with Jose Mourinho set to beat the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to the attacker’s signature.

According to CalcioMercato, the Serie A side have held positive talks with the forward over the weekend and a deal to bring Dybala to Roma is close to completion, with Mourinho managing to sign the 28-year-old phenom over Arsenal and Tottenham, who were both reportedly interested in signing the South American.

Dybala left Juventus at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract, and the race to sign the free agent superstar has been tight, with Inter Milan at one stage looking like the favourites to land the Serie A superstar. However, Roma and Mourinho have been victorious in their efforts.

The signing marks a huge coup for Roma and what the Italian side can achieve next season. Mourinho led the Giallorossi to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in his first year in the Eternal City, and recruiting Dybala could now have supporters dreaming of ever bigger achievements.

A player who was earning a reported £222,000-a-week at Juventus, signing Dybala will probably require a huge financial undertaking for Roma, but if the silky attacker settles in Rome and plays well for Mourinho, the possibilities are endless for what the Serie A side can achieve.

Indeed, CalcioMercato themselves label the transfer as ‘historic’ for Roma, who have arguably not had a player of Dybala’s quality since the days of Mohamed Salah, and Italy’s top-flight next season could have a new contender for the Scudetto in the form of Mourinho.

Dybala has been one of football’s most consistent world-class performers in recent years, and signing for a club like Roma is a huge coup and a move that many neutrals will approve of, with Mourinho potentially landing one of the deals of the summer transfer window.

Alongside Tammy Abraham, Dybala could fire Roma back to the UEFA Champions League and also help Mourinho make a huge mark in other cup competitions, with the Argentine keen to make a name for himself in the Italian capital next season.
