FCSB owner Gigi Becali admits he plans to sell Darius Olaru but wants around £7 million for the reported Rangers target, as reported by DigiSport.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side might have responded to the loss of Joe Aribo by bringing in a pair of Welsh internationals – Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence – but that has not stopped the Gers from casting their net a little wider in search of more freshwater talent.
According to Romanian publication ProSport, Rangers have sent scouts to watch 24-year-old Olaru in action.
But Becali, as the Glasgow giants are about to discover, is not an easy man to do business with. ProSport add that Rangers were ‘shocked’ when they found out how much Becali was demanding for the six-time Romania international.
This is certainly not the first time Becali’s rather, well, up front approach has resulted in a few open mouths and raised eyebrows.
Rangers like Romania ace Darius Olaru

“I asked for eight million,” Becali explains. “They offered five and I said that, without seven million, I would not sell him. It remains to be seen (if the club meet my demands).
“I can’t tell you what club. They came to negotiate. I’m telling you, I asked for 7 to 7.5 million, but it’s not a 7.5 million offer. I wouldn’t sell Olaru if it wasn’t for these problems with the war.
“I want to sell Olaru,” he adds to ProSport.
Scheming, squirrelling and deliciously direct, Olaru in full flow is a joy to watch. A footballing symphony emitting the most alluring of sounds. The numbers make for rather beautiful music too; Six goals and 12 assists in all competitions shows he’s as efficient as he is aesthetically-pleasing.
Olaru, who can play in the middle or wide on the right, would become Rangers’ biggest signing since Ryan Kent if they are willing to stump up such a fee. That is a big ‘if’ indeed.
