Middlesbrough are ‘delighted’ with the deal they are getting from Tottenham Hotspur for Djed Spence to sign for Antonio Conte’s side after protracted discussions over his transfer.

That’s according to The Northern Echo, who note Spence should secure his switch to Spurs this weekend. Boro have finally accepted an offer from the north London outfit to sell the 21-year-old after weeks of off-and-on-again negotiations regarding the right-back’s move.

Middlesbrough believe their stubbornness in talks has proven worthwhile with the fee that Tottenham will pay to sign Spence worth what the Teessiders have demanded all summer. Spurs will also pay out a much larger initial instalment than the club had pushed to spend.

Spence should pen a long-term contract with Tottenham to join the Premier League outfit he has wanted to join all summer. The defender indicated his desires to move to Conte’s side at the start of the off-season after returning from a loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

But Boro dug their heels in, refusing to sell the England U21 gem on the cheap, and believe their persistence has now paid off. Spence’s transfer to Spurs will also free Chris Wilder to strengthen his squad at the Riverside Stadium ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Reports by football.london suggest Tottenham will pay Middlesbrough an upfront £12.5m, rising up to £20m with add-ons, to sign Spence. Fabrizio Romano also reports the London-born dynamo completed his medical on Friday after travelling down to the English capital.

Tottenham have pushed to sign Spence, who wanted the move, after the Middlesbrough gem excelled on loan with Nottingham Forest last season. He offered five assists and two goals through 42 Championship games, whilst scoring against Leicester City in the FA Cup.

Spence further shone in the FA Cup during ties with top-six Premier League teams Arsenal and Liverpool. Now, he should end Conte’s search for a new right-wing-back at Tottenham.
