Tottenham wanted Mattias Svanberg in January and the Bologna star is now seeking a big move to the Premier League this summer.

Tottenham have been linked with an absurd number of players ever since Fabio Paratici’s arrival as director of football.

Paratici works the market like few others and he has great connections in the Italian market specifically.

Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Ivan Perisic have all arrived from Italian clubs since Paratici’s arrival.

A host of Serie A players have been linked to Tottenham, with Bologna star Svanberg one of them.

Tottenham wanted Mattias Svanberg

iNews reported in December that Tottenham were ready to make Svanberg the first signing of the Antonio Conte era.

It was suggested that Tottenham had pushed their way to the front of the queue for Svanberg.

Manchester City were also keen on Svanberg but all the signs pointed towards Tottenham.

Yet in true Paratici fashion, it seemed that Svanberg was just one of a number of potential targets on the Tottenham radar.

Tottenham instead snapped up Bentancur from Juventus, bolstering Conte’s midfield.

Football Italia now report that Svanberg is keen on making a move to the Premier League this summer.

It’s stated that Southampton want Svanberg and they may now be more appealing than Napoli, Wolfsburg and Marseille.

Svanberg has just one year left on his contract, meaning he is set to be an absolute bargain for somebody this summer.

Despite those Tottenham links in January, Svanberg surely won’t be heading to North London now.

Not only did Tottenham pick Bentancur over Svanberg in January, but they have now signed another midfielder in Yves Bissouma.

Add in that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp are also at Conte’s disposal and it’s hard to see Tottenham going for another midfielder.

Tottenham could end up seeing Svanberg at close quarters if he does join Southampton, particularly when the two teams face off on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
