Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Lucas Paqueta’s situation amid ongoing links to Arsenal.

The journalist states that there is indeed an interest from the Gunners, but the situation is a little more complex than many are reporting.

Indeed, according to Bailey, Paqueta’s people are strongly pushing him towards getting a transfer to the Premier League, but according to Bailey, a lot of the interest is just agent talk and no club is willing to pay his hefty asking price at this moment in time.

What’s been said?

Bailey spoke about Paqueta’s situation.

“His people are pushing him massively for England. It’s a player I’ve looked at a lot with the Newcastle links that have come. At the moment there’s not much English interest in him at this price, we’re talking £70m and that’s way off. Nobody will pay that in England for him, and if they do, fair play to his agent. It’s a lot of agent talk, there is interest and Edu knows the player, he’s a Brazilian in Europe and that’s his job,” Bailey said.

Not likely

Bailey says that Edu is aware of Paqueta’s talents, but, all things considered, this transfer isn’t looking likely.

At £70m, the Brazilian would cost massive money this summer, and, in all honesty, Arsenal simply don’t need a player of his ilk.

The Gunners already have three incredibly talented number 10s in the shape of Emile Smith Rowe, Fabio Vieira and Martin Odegaard, and adding Paqueta to that mix would just be overkill.

Arsenal don’t need to sign Paqueta, and it’s not surprising at all to hear that this rumour has mostly stemmed from the player’s agents.
