Simon Jordan doesn’t think Tottenham will challenge for the Premier League title next season, but he has backed them to win the Europa League, as he told talkSPORT.

The former Crystal Palace owner added that this current Tottenham side is ‘very different’ under Antonio Conte and he feels there is a bit of ‘substance’ to the team.

The Spurs players are getting a feel of what Conte is really like because this is their first taste of what he demands during pre-season.

And if recent reports are to be true, then the Italian is putting his players through their paces and they have had to encounter a brutal first few days during their tour of South Korea.

Nonetheless, ahead of the new Premier League season, Jordan can’t see the Champions League-bound side challenging for the title, but he has backed them to end their trophy drought.

“No is the answer,” said Jordan. “They’re not going to challenge Manchester City or Liverpool because they aren’t at that level. Unless Manchester City and Liverpool drop their levels.

“What you are going to see with Tottenham Hotspur is a very different Tottenham. More substance. More backbone. The players that are coming in are more of a Conte type than what’s been there previously.

“He has made his mind up about certain players and certain players have left. The boy Bergwijn has gone back to the Dutch league, a few others are going to go out. You are seeing more players coming in that are more reflective of Conte.

“I think Tottenham will finish in the top four. Stabilise in the top four. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got themselves into a situation where they got knocked out early in the Champions League, dropped into the Europa League and won that. But I think there is a cup for Tottenham next year.”

WILL CONTE SIGN A NEW CONTRACT?

Before Spurs could jet-off for pre-season, five new faces were already through the club’s doors, which just goes to show how well he is being backed.

Usually, Daniel Levy likes to do last-minute shopping, but with Fabio Paratici the man in the transfer hotseat, he is getting deals done and quickly.

The key question now is, will Conte sign a new contract at the club? His current deal expires next summer and it would be the best deal Spurs could do if he signs on the dotted line.

It could be a case of Conte extending his stay at the club and Harry Kane follows suit by signing his last, big and long-term contract with the London club.
