A move to the Premier League is off the cards for Dynamo Moscow star Daniil Fomin despite admiration from Crystal Palace, the Russia international’s agent tells Championat.
After missing out on Flynn Downes to West Ham United on Thursday, it has taken less than 24 hours for Palace’s interest in another talented central midfielder to run aground.
Alexander Manyakov, Fomin’s representative, has spoken publicly on a number of occasions about a potential switch to Selhurst Park for one of the RPL’s most exciting, up-and-coming talents.
“I have voice messages on my phone from a person at Crystal Palace who influences the club’s transfer policy,” Manyakov said following the January transfer window.
“He says in plain text: ‘I really like Fomin. He is one of the candidates, but we are now focused on acquiring (Donny) Van de Beek.’
“The Dutchman did not go to Crystal Palace but ended up in Everton. And there was practically no time to carry out Fomin’s transfer before the closing of the window. But I can confirm the interest of Crystal Palace.”
Why will Crystal Palace miss out on Daniil Fomin?

Manyakov’s comments came only a couple of weeks before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Thus, further complicating any deal that would have seen belatedly Fomin swap Moscow for South London.
“I believe that, in the current world situation, transfers from Russia to Europe during this window are practically excluded,” Manyakov explains on Friday.
“If something happens, it will be something out of the ordinary. The possibility of Fomin and England? I think it will be closed chapter for the next few years.”
Fomin is a more attack-minded player than Downes; A midfielder more in line with Conor Gallagher. He actually scored more goals (14) last season than Crystal Palace’s prodigious Chelsea loanee.
In a frustrating week for Patrick Vieira, The Eagles look set to miss out on Joe Aribo to Southampton too. What’s more, the long-awaited arrival of Cheick Doucoure from Lens is being held up by red tape.
