Speaking on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Express journalist Ryan Taylor has been discussing Spurs and their interest in Alessandro Bastoni.

The Italian defender has long been linked with a move to north London. Antonio Conte is seemingly very keen to bring the left-footer to Spurs and according to Dean Jones, Spurs see the defender as an ‘absolute dream signing’.

However, while the London club are very keen to bring Bastoni in, the deal seems unlikely right now.

Indeed, according to Taylor, the defender has agreed to stay at Inter for another season, with the journalist stating that a there has been a gentleman’s agreement between the two parties.

What’s been said?

Taylor spoke about Bastoni’s situation.

“Ultimately the key for this is with Inter Milan. It’s well documented that they need to raise cash through a sale to clear their financial struggles. The one they would push to the door is Milan Skriniar who is a player Spurs have been interested in in the past,” Taylor said.

“PSG are in talks to sign him at the moment and following a meeting with Bastoni’s agent there was clear communication that he will be staying, but if they cannot agree a deal with Skriniar, then ultimately it’s one they may look to push towards the door.

“Inter are confident within themselves that they can replace players as we’ve seen with Lukaku and Hakimi. I don’t think Inter are too worried about losing any players, but there has been a gentleman’s agreement with Bastoni that he will be staying.”

Try again next year

Inter, of course, don’t want to sell their two key defenders in the same window, but this one may be worth looking at in 12 months’ time for Spurs.

This time next year Bastoni will be entering the final year of his Inter contract, and at that point, it may be much easier to get him out of San Siro.

Perhaps this is what Spurs are planning. After all, they have been linked with a loan move for Clement Lenglet in recent days, and if they do land the Frenchman on loan, they could very easily send him back to Barcelona in 12 months’ time and reignite their interest in Bastoni.

This probably won’t happen this summer, but don’t be shocked if Spurs go for this defender again in 2023.
