Red Bull Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund admits that he is not certain whether big-spending Premier League outfit Leeds United plan to trigger Mohamed Camara’s £25 million release clause, speaking to Salzburger Nachrichten.

Well Christoph, we have some good news for you. We’re all Freunds here, right?

Midday Tuesday, the head coach of Salzburg’s sister club – RB Leipzig – confirmed that Tyler Adams had said ‘goodbye’ to his team-mates as he closes in on a £15 million move to Elland Road. USA international Adams will join fellow newcomer Marc Roca in an all-new central midfield partnership under Jesse Marsch, with Leeds determined to prove that there is indeed life without Kalvin Phillips.

So with Adams and Roca in – and with Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Klich sticking around – it’s hard to imagine Leeds splashing out a further £25 million on another midfielder. Especially with further reinforcements required in other areas of a paper-thin squad.

Will Leeds sign Mohamed Camara as well as Tyler Adams?

“Mo still has a three-year contract with us. So it’s also possible that he’ll continue to play in Salzburg,” says Freund.

“I can’t predict if Leeds are also willing to buy him out of his contract, But in football, a lot can happen very quickly.”

Freund’s comments come amid rather intriguing from Austria. Talks between Leeds and Salzburg have supposedly accelerated recently, after stalling earlier in the window.

Of course, there is still a chance – albeit a slim one – that the Yorkshire giants will look to bring in a third midfielder in the space of just one window. Forshaw is both ageing and injury prone after all. Adams, meanwhile, has spent much of his time as a right-back, particularly at international level.

And 22-year-old Camara is perhaps closer – stylistically speaking at least – to Phillips than any of the other midfielders on Leeds’ summer wishlist.

Furthermore,, Camara has experience when it comes to playing in a Jesse Marsch team. Just like Brendan Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and the aforementioned Adams.

“Tyler is tenacious. He’s aggressive. He’s confident on the ball,” Marsch said of Adams in 2017.

“He wins his duels. He’s fast. He covers ground, he pressures well, he breaks up play, and he’s a competitor. I could go on because we think so highly of him.”

Adams was absent from first-team training today with a transfer imminent. He could be joined by Feyenoord’s Luis Sinisterra.
