Well, Aaron Hickey joining Arsenal is no longer a possibility.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted out this afternoon that the Scottish left-back is set to leave Bologna in order to join Premier League outfit Brentford.

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Hickey for much of the summer.

Two weeks ago, it was reported by The Scotsman that the Gunners were closing in on a move to get the 20-year-old defender.

However, that no longer looks the case as Romano tweeted that he’s destined for the other side of London.

This is obviously bad news for Arsenal, who aren’t going to be getting one of their perceived targets.

And honestly, it’s probably down to Kieran Tierney.

Not directly of course, but Hickey probably wants regular football every single week and the truth is that with Tierney ahead of him in the pecking order, that more than likely wouldn’t happen.

Tierney is Arsenal’s first-choice option for that role and even though the former Celtic youngster is a tad injury prone, Hickey can’t be expected to rely on the 24-year-old being absent in order to get minutes on the pitch.

Mikel Arteta also has Nuno Tavares as a left-back option and although Hickey probably would’ve been ahead of him too, it isn’t guaranteed because the Portuguese youngster does have the fundamentals of a frightening attacking player and if he can iron out his defensive creases, well he’s a genuine threat to Tierney.

All in all, you have to say that Hickey is probably making the right decision.
