According to The Scotsman, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey.
The Serie A defender has long been touted as a target for the Gunners, and now, it seems as though Arsenal are finally closing in on their man.
According to The Scotsman, it is now a case of when and not if the full-back will join Arsenal this summer, and that is news that should excited Gunners supporters.
Indeed, the youngster has been labelled as an ‘extraordinary’ player, and he’s really been making his mark over in Italy.
Hickey is a regular for Bologna these days, and he’s actually just been nominated for the European Golden Boy award by TuttoSport.
Of course, a move to Arsenal would see Hickey linking up with another Scottish left-back in the shape of Kieran Tierney, while this move is also sure to cast doubts over the future of Nuno Tavares who had a ropey debut season in north London.
Arsenal certainly needed cover at full-back after Tierney spent the latter part of last season sidelined with injury, and now, it looks as though they will have some quality depth on the left side of defence.
Whether or not Hickey arrives as Arsenal’s first signing of the summer remains to be seen. Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans are also seemingly not far away from signing for Mikel Arteta’s side, so there may well be one or two players announced before Hickey.
Exciting times are seemingly on the horizon at Arsenal.
