Phil Hay has told his Athletic podcast that there is a “fair possibility” Leeds complete a move to sign RB Leipzig and USA international Tyler Adams this summer. Kalvin Phillips is set to join Manchester City.

Phillips, 26, is set to end his stay at Leeds – which has lasted since joining the club as a kid. A move, believed to be worth an initial £42m, plus £3million in add-ons, is expected to go through on Friday with a medical taking place.

Numerous names have been touted as a possible replacement for Phillips and one of those is Adams. Previous reports from Fabrizio Romano say Leeds are interested in securing a third reunion this summer for Jesse Marsch.

BILD claim he has a £32million release clause at Leipzig – a player Marsch managed both at Leipzig, and at New York Red Bulls. Hay has told his podcast that there is a fair chance Leeds could replace Phillips with Adams.

“They are recruiting players Marsch wants – Kristensen, Aaronson. You’ve seen the links to Tyler Adams and there is a fair possibility of that one. That is somebody else that Marsch knows extremely well. They are backing him.”

Hay: Fair possibility Leeds sign Adams

Adams would be a superb addition for Leeds on numerous fronts. Still young at 23, he is just six games short of 200 club and country matches at senior level. Experienced, but young.

He can play in numerous positions, cheap-ish at this stage in the market at little over £30million and of course, he knows Marsch well. Adams would also unite with one of his international teammates in Aaronson. It makes sense.

Leeds would also make a profit on the sale of Phillips, allowing them to spend elsewhere – perhaps on a striker or towards a replacement for Raphinha when the Brazilian eventually departs.
