Paul Merson has been speaking to Sports Keeda, where he made a claim involving Tottenham, Liverpool and Yves Bissouma.

What’s the story?

Well, the 54-year-old believes Tottenham have already sealed the signing of the summer, after they wrapped up a £25m deal for the Mali international from Brighton.

Bissouma has signed a five-year contract in north London, and according to some sources, Spurs beat Arsenal to his signature.

Now, Merson – who supports the Gunners – has swallowed his pride and admitted that Tottenham have made an “unbelievable” addition to their squad, one which Liverpool should’ve explored.

The Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundit wrote: “This is an unbelievable coup for Spurs as Yves Bissouma could have played for any of the other top-six sides in the Premier League. I look at Liverpool’s midfield and feel he could play for them. £25m in this day and age – it’s nothing. Spurs have nabbed an absolute bargain.”

We can’t help but agree.

Bissouma would be in the conversation for signing of the summer even if the fee was around the £40m mark, given how talented a footballer he is.

So, for Tottenham to secure his signature for just £25m is an amazing deal, and with Antonio Conte coaching him, we expect the 25-year-old to become even better next season.

Liverpool decided to leave Yves Bissouma to Tottenham

Interestingly, Liverpool did allegedly take a look at Bissouma, as Merson suggests they should’ve.

However, Jürgen Klopp decided against bringing the Malian to Anfield – in fact, it is said that the Reds felt they could’ve easily done a deal with Brighton.

Instead, Liverpool decided to spend the bulk of their budget on Darwin Nunez, who arrived from Benfica in a deal worth an initial £64m, potentially rising to a club-record £85m with add-ons.

Despite that, Liverpool do not just shortlist anybody, so it says a lot that Bissouma was even on their radar – clearly, he is a very talented player, who has impressed during his time in the Premier League.
