Tottenham are set to appoint Gianni Vio to Antonio Conte’s staff with the Italian set-piece expert heading to North London imminently.

Tottenham are in the midst of a big summer full of changes both on and off the pitch.

Three new signings have come in with Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma all joining the club.

Off the pitch, Steve Hitchen and Brian Carey have left the club whilst Gretar Steinsson, Andy Scoulding and Simon Davies are coming in.

That’s all exciting for Tottenham’s background work and Conte is now set to add a new face of his own to the Spurs coaching staff.

Tottenham are set to appoint Gianni Vio

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Tottenham are set to appoint Vio to Conte’s coaching staff with an agreement now close.

Vio is a hugely experienced Italian coach and will certainly have been a personal pick from the Tottenham boss.

The report notes that Vio was one of the key members of staff during Italy’s run to winning Euro 2020 last summer.

Vio, 69, allegedly has 4,830 set piece routines stocked away and Tottenham will now be hoping to see his impact in the Premier League.

Vio is no stranger to English football either.

He worked with Brentford between 2015 and 2016 before then joining Leeds United for the 2017-18 season under Thomas Christensen and Paul Heckingbottom.

Christensen even hail Vio as ‘one of the best’ coaches around, particularly for his ability to develop set pieces.

Vio moved back to Italy with SPAL and Cagliari before working alongside Roberto Mancini in the Italy setup.

Palermo, Triestina, Fiorentina and AC Milan have also appointed Vio in the past, bringing him in for his set piece expertise.

This would be a major coup for Tottenham and it seems that Conte will now have a new weapon to utilise next season and beyond.
